Further Detail
Experience a visually stimulating introduction to Still Life painting using oil paint. The particular qualities of the medium, and its power to describe and express form will be taught, commencing with the basic technical organisation of the oil colour palette, and how to form, develop and structure a still life painting.
An interesting and varied subject group will be the focus of the course, containing natural and man made objects both decorative and structural. Your painting will evolve through carefully planned stages to command control over the medium but allowing individual personality. By the end of this course, you will have achieved a finished work, a still life painting which has succeeded through the fullest exploration of the oil painting technique.
NB: Participating students are invited to bring along a personal Still Life object of their own choice.
Skills/Techniques Covered
Teaching will emphasise the context of the subject and your own response through considered composition, you will learn and practice different approaches such as under painting and impasto. Through one to one tutor support, live class technical demonstrations and the critical analysis, your confidence will evolve to experiment and investigate different approaches to mixing and applying colour, mark making, and highlighting.
