Jo Dixon
I work in mixed media, and my work involves a layering of paint, print and collage onto paper or fabric grounds. My work is embedded in a relationship to the natural world; observations, feelings, glimpses and memories as experienced in the environment within and around us. Drawing is an important part of my process, and is developed by working with textures, marks, colours, and pattern to create a rich surface in response to the feeling of the subject. I exhibit regularly and complete private commissions.
I value the teaching role and have great enthusiasm to share my passion for all things creative, whilst encouraging others to be creative. I completed a PGCE in Art and a Foundation in Art Therapy which has enabled me to work with a wide range of adults and children delivering courses and workshops and I am currently working as a part time Art teacher in school as well as pursuing and developing my freelance Art practise.
Career Highlights and Achievements
I trained at Winchester School of Art completing a BA in Textile Design and Print. I have completed further ongoing studies into a range of art disciplines including; printmaking, Fine Art painting and drawing.
I have worked as a self employed artist for over 30 years and have exhibited widely, also taking on private and public commissions – Oxfordshire County Collection, Brita Water Headquarters, and The Warneford Hospital Oxford to name a few.
Inspirations
Being a creative person - inspiration can be found from all sources around me sometimes just looking out of the window or from traveling and the experience of different cultures, observations in nature - potentially everywhere!
Other Interests
Part of being creative is in the way you think and observe things; I have found that yoga and mindfulness can support this and I enjoy these things.
