Anne Hellyer

For as long as I can remember I have been interested in drawing and painting.
At the age of 6 my Grandmother introduced me to her sewing machine and I have been making things ever since.
After completing for my City & Guilds in Creative Embroidery I have developed my own style using paint, appliqué and free motion embroidery to make my free standing art work.
I offer a variety of workshops - either where students bring their own pictures to use as inspiration or if preferred a workshop in which students create their own piece of work using one of my designs as a basis. Whichever one is chosen it will definitely be a day that is busy but fun. I like the workshop days to be relaxed but informative. Students will go home with new skills and a completed - or nearly completed – piece of work.
I won my first prize age 5 for drawing a nasturtium – a book on wild flowers. I have had a design published in a craft magazine and also in one of Maggie Greys WOW Books.
Some of my inspiration comes from buildings and architecture, I love imagining the lives that have been lived and the stories buildings could tell.
My favourite artists are Gaudi, Picasso and Anthony Gormley. I enjoy reading and I am interested in a wide variety of genres. I really like people, of all types and ages, it’s one of the reasons I enjoy teaching so much...
