Amanda Hislop

Picture
Amanda combines drawn and painted marks with thread, paper and fabric; mixed media with machine embroidery add depth and texture to her work which involves the manipulation of threads, paper and fabric, integrating line, colour and texture into the surface of her unique work.
Amanda seeks to blur the boundaries between art and craft; having studied woven textiles with painting at West Surrey College of Art and Design in the 1980’s, followed by a PGCE in visual arts, and subsequently a career of more than 20 years in art and textile teaching in the independent sector this established an intuitive understanding of the tactile nature of art and textile materials.
Amanda uses her teaching skills to run relaxed inspirational workshops which focus on her enjoyment of painting, drawing and stitch in which participants are encouraged to expand their personal creative energy.

Career Highlights and Achievements
Amanda has work in private collections in the UK and abroad, exhibiting with Prism textile group in London and other venues in the UK. As a member of Oxfordshire Craft Guild she exhibits and takes part in events, her work ‘Waves wash ashore’ was selected as winner of the Fletcher Prize and is now part of the Oxfordshire collection of Contemporary Craft.  Amanda has published two books of images, ‘Land lines; drawn lines; stitch lines’ and ‘Reflections on trees, a sketchbook exploration. She is currently working on a book for Search Press to be published in 2019.
