Nicola Kantorowicz
I have been designing and making stained glass for over twenty five years and my windows can be found in churches in Kent, Sussex, Oxfordshire, Suffolk and London as well as in smaller private spaces.
I trained in both textile and stained glass design before spending time working in industry and finally setting up my own studio.
I love the challenge of working with traditional materials and interpreting them in a contemporary fashion.
My time is divided between working on private commissions, teaching and taking part in exhibitions and fairs which promote stained glass.
With a keen eye for detail and a sense of fun, I enjoy helping students of all ability levels to realise their ideas in glass and produce a brilliant piece of work. Teaching style – informal, constructive and always enjoyable!
Career Highlights and Achievements
My greatest achievements must be creating work for churches, being able to interpret a client’s wishes and see them realized in a medium which has such resonance and permanence in a public space.
I am an elected Fellow of the British Society of Master Glass Painters. I’ve had work exhibited at Chelsea Craft Fair and a solo exhibition at the Cochrane Theatre Gallery in London.
Inspirations
Inspiration comes from all around, the natural and manmade landscape; snapshots of architectural detail. I love to explore pattern and decorative effects in my glass work. Influential artists include Brian Clarke, John Hayward and Lawrence Lee. And medieval stained glass – where it all began and continues to inspire.
Other Interests
Family and life, just get out there!
