Ian McManus

I’ve been a professional artist for the last 20 years and have taught at many prestigious art schools and art societies around the country.
My pupils paint alongside me regardless of their level of skill. I teach methodical processes to achieve dynamic paintings, aiding them to refine their observation skills, yet liberate their brushwork and become more expressive painters.
I am a full member of the IEA (Institute of East Anglian Artists). I’ve been described by my contemporaries as “one of the finest exponents of watercolour in the East Anglian region”. and I’ve hosted solo exhibitions annually for the past decade at The Gallery, Holt, showing around 50 paintings with a diverse range of subjects.
Specialising in painting busy figurative street scenes, I’ve been inspired by many other genres including coastal and pastoral. I believe any subject can be a source of inspiration if the light and composition have an interesting aspect.
Pre-selected for the RI.
Awarded best painting in show at the I.E.A. exhibition.
Ten major solo exhibitions at the gallery in Holt.
One DVD made with Townhouse Films and another being filmed this April.
Early on I was initially inspired by John Yardley, and I also love the work of Edward Seago. Painting takes up much of my time, but I also enjoy playing snooker and cooking.
