Angela Pawlyn

I taught science for over 20 years. I have been weaving for nearly 40 years and much more since giving up full time work in 2004. I started weaving on a frame and then wove rugs on a four shaft loom. I now mainly weave scarves and pictures. I enjoy teaching weaving as people learn by having a go and, having been shown the basic techniques, produce such varied results
Career Highlights and Achievements
I have been a member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. My responsibilities included editing articles on dyeing. I am the former Chair of the Oxford Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.
Inspirations
My interest in weaving started in 1978 when my Mother bought a Rowan Frame Loom on a holiday in the Lake District. From then it has gone from strength to strength.
Although I enjoy experimenting with weave structures, I also like working with colour. Sue Lewington, who paints wonderful pictures of the Isles of Scilly, encouraged me to produce woven pictures using handspun silk (I also like to base woven pictures on the work of other artists).
Plain or simple twill weaves are often the most effective way of using coloured yarns. Even if I limit myself to making scarves and pictures I have enough ideas to keep me weaving for years. However, I also want to find time to weave some soft furnishings such as cushion covers and linen place mats using double weave
Other Interests
I am a keen gardener
