Sue Pearl

I have been teaching felt making and other textile specialties, like eco-dyeing, for the last 17 years and have embraced all types of felt, both wet and dry. I try and enthuse my students and to bring out their natural creativity by encouraging them to be experimental and a bit daring. I teach all ages from Primary School to seniors and I try to reinvent the craft using different objectives to suit the type and interest of the students. I also work with special needs students and in these cases I use a simpler method of creating felt but one which will encourage them to use colour to create individuality. You can also see me on You Tube.
Career Highlights and Achievements
I have work in the Oxfordshire Museum, in the contemporary Craft collection held at Woodstock. My work was chosen to be part of a juried exhibition, Identity, in Pittsburgh, USA. I have run workshops at the Design Museum in New York as part of the Felt exhibition held there. I have a book published, Felted Friends, now out of print. I have had articles in magazines such as Saga and I write a regular article in Felt Matters which is the magazine of the International Feltmakers Association. I also hold an MA in Applied Art and Visual Culture in which I was awarded a distinction.
Inspirations
The natural world inspires me, the animals in our countryside. I have a favourite artist who’s style has influenced me in my work, Hundertwasser and Walt Disney is always with me.
Other Interests
I have been collecting Disney memorabilia for many years especially early Mickey Mouse. I love to travel and now I have started to practice taxidermy which has been an interest of mine since the ‘60’s.
