Kevin Scully

I come from a background of scene painting in the theatre and television, mural painting, and illustration in commercial art studios, where I was required to be able work in a variety of styles and applications. This experience means I can work and teach in most mediums.
I especially enjoy sharing this vast experience with others, and my work encompasses a wide range of subject matter where I concentrate on working from direct observation to produce paintings that contain just the bare essentials, and devoid of too much unnecessary detail. I am enthusiastic and creative, using demonstrations and one-to-one tuition to help students gain confidence and develop as individuals.
My tuition is relaxed and supportive, and I encourage students to progress at their own pace, whilst learning new skills, and of course to also have plenty of fun!

Inspirations
I am inspired by all artists who excel in their chosen medium, which is why I haven’t adopted a single style of painting, but instead treat each subject as a separate entity and record it appropriately. The two painters I admire most are John Singer Sargent and Andrew Wyeth because of their outstanding skill.
Other Interests
Most of my interests have an artistic or visual connection; calligraphy, sculpture, garden design and period architecture, although the latter more from an historical perspective.
