Nagihan Seymour
I am a British Turkish artist from the UK specialising in Tezhip, the art of illumination and sacred geometry. Originally a materials engineer, I have been practising Tezhip since my university years. A lover of nature and the natural world, I believe that inspiration is everywhere.
After my first solo exhibition at The Lightbox in 2017, I became a full-time artist, painting and creating ceramics from my studio in Egham, Surrey.
My paintings are free-hand drawn and painted symmetrical designs, consisting of naturalistic floral ornamentation or patterns with a simple expression. I work primarily using 11 to 23 carat gold, with acrylic, gouache and watercolour paints on handmade papers. I try to add my own contemporary spin to the works I create while adhering to the rules and traditions of this ancient art form.
I have participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions and joined in art fairs across the UK. I have been a traditional arts instructor since 2017 and taught at many institutions and museums such as Leighton House, David Parr Museum and The Lightbox.
