Sophie Wootton

I am currently studying a degree in Design Crafts at De Montford University. Alongside my studies I run my alcohol ink business. I have always been a perfectionist but during my Art Foundation year I was pushed out of my comfort zone and discovered the world of abstract art and completely fell in love with the process and outcomes. I use alcohol inks on ceramics and yupo paper to create abstract patterns and designs. Once I am happy with the design, I use a clear epoxy resin to seal the pieces. This protects the artwork from UV damage and gives the piece durability.
When running a workshop, I want all of my students to bring their own creativity to the table with no pressure or expectations. My workshops are all about experimentation - being able to let go and explore how the ink works is the best way to gain from the experience.
I am inspired by bright colours and patterns. I use colour to express emotions and feelings. I love how each piece of work I create is unique meaning each person’s response to a piece can be completely different. I love how people can use their own imagination when observing my work.
Currently, during my degree, I have done a lot of work with ceramics, glass blowing and jewellery. I look forward to developing my skills further in these areas too.
I also love drawing using graphite or coloured pencil. I often work on commissions, mainly pet portraits, which focus on realism.
