Further Detail
The basketry technique used for working with cane is known as “stake and strand” and is also used a lot for willow basketry. Cane takes dye very easily the the stake and strand technique allows for a variety of different colour patterns to be worked.
Have fun on day one, preparing and dyeing your cane in a rainbow of colours, then learn how to use it on day two. You will learn how to start the base of a cane basket, then to work up the sides, shaping as you go.
The tutor will bring plenty of samples to give you an idea of what patterns and colour combinations you can choose to weave up the sides of your baskets.
Finally you’ll work a simple border to finish off your basket.
Skills/Techniques Covered
Level
This course is suitable for a range of abilities from complete beginner to intermediate

Please Note - the bucket/bowl will get stained by the dyeing process and should not be used for food/kitchen use after being used for dyeing. You may not have anything suitable, but might be able to get something suitable very cheaply in a £1 shop.
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
