After discussing composition and carrying out the loose preliminary drawing, you will be shown some simple and fascinating techniques of pastel application. These include using different areas of your hand and your fingers to render the many textures in the landscape.
Clive will also show you how to fill your painting with light and atmosphere and also to create the illusion of distance. Students will receive abundant individual guidance and attention on their way to producing exciting farmland scenes themselves to take back home.

Materials
Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £10. The tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment

Please Bring With You
- Please bring a good selection of good quality soft pastels (Clive uses UNISON soft pastels - the short chunky ones with a paper band around) and a pale pastel pencil. A few favourite soft pastels will be available for students to purchase.
- Small brush – 1cm approx. (to brush away excess pastel)
- Kitchen towel
- Wet wipes
- Soft putty rubber
- Small cotton cloth (to wipe hands)
- Masking tape
