Further Detail
In this workshop you will have the opportunity to extend your knowledge and experiment with glass fusing and slumping. The course will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of creating glass objects in a kiln. Experiment with a variety of Glass materials and design a lovely set of coasters. We will focus on pattern, colour and design.
We will start with a quick tutorial on glass cutting and suitable tools. We will look at examples and discuss how glass reacts when fired in a kiln. Guidance on design ideas and use of colour will be covered and we will discuss how to create a theme within our set of coasters. You will then be able to work with a selection of coloured sheet glass, frits, confetti and stringers to design your own unique set of coasters.
For our second project we will apply the same technique on a larger sheet of glass to then create a glass platter. This will first be fused and then slumped in a kiln leaving you with a 3 D shape. This course will give you the opportunity to create lovely functional glass art for your home or as a gift; something you have designed and created yourself!
