We will look at creating a design from your source material, safe linocutting techniques, and printing by hand using a variety of approaches.  No experience necessary.....lots of step-by-step demos & individual help

A fun, creative day suitable for complete beginners and those wanting to refresh their skills. We will be using water-soluble oil-based inks and easy-cut lino during the workshop

Skills and techniques that will be taught in the course:
  • Designing and transferring an image suitable for lino
  • Cutting techniques and use of the tools
  • Inking & printing by hand
  • Monochrome and simple colour variations in printing

From beginner through to improver
 
Materials
Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £6.00  payable to the tutor during the course. Please bring cash or cheque for materials. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.
 
Students - please bring with you:
  • Photos / source material to use as starting points  - no bigger than A5 (the tutor will also have some images you can work from)
  • Lino-cutting tools if you have them
  • Roller / brayer if you have one (the tutor will have tools and rollers available to borrow)
  • Apron
  • Kitchen roll, baby wipes, dessert spoon, glue stick such as Pritt
  • Selection of smooth papers to work on  - coloured, plain, tissue etc (be prepared to experiment)  - approx A4 size.  The tutor will provide white cartridge
It would be helpful (but not essential) to bring the following
  • Masking Tape
  • Ruler
  • Soft pencil (HB or 2B or similar)
  • Craft knife
  • Dark colour wax crayon
  • Something smooth & non-porous to roll ink onto (perspex/tile)
  • Printing ink: Water-based block-printing ink or water-soluble oil based ink (Caligo Safewash Relief Ink)

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
