Further Detail
Pique Assiette translates as ‘Thief of Plates’ - this is the chance to use all those bits and pieces you’ve been collecting over the years: the pieces of china you dug up, the buttons you didn’t like to throw away, the shells and pebbles – whatever you can come up with! You’ll learn how to choose the correct adhesives and grouts, how to cut mosaic pieces to make different patterns and designs, and apply your found objects.
Skills/Techniques Covered
Level
This course is designed for a range of abilities, including complete beginners.
Materials
Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £10 -£30, payable to the tutor during the course. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.
The tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.
Please Bring With You
The tutor will have materials for you to use if you don’t bring your own, although please bring along any found objects and broken china that you might like to use. Also, anything you might like to apply mosaic to, e.g. planters, vases, mirror frames, et cetera. Be prepared to be flexible in using these. (Base boards will be available on the course as well.) Please contact the tutor if you’d like to discuss a particular project.
We suggest that you bring an apron or you can purchase one from the school.
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
