You can be a printmaker without spending hours sweating over carving a wooden block or scratching into a metal plate. We will use a cunning method to create painted images and then print them using an etching press. We will look at a number of monotype methods, including reductive and additive. We’ll also explore using paper stencils, chalk dust and other unexpected tools and materials to create unique, one-off printed images.

Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. Good quality printing paper can be bought from the tutor. The approximate cost will be £2 per A4 sheet, payable to the tutor during the course.

- Designing an effective image to get the most from your idea; thinking creatively within the boundaries of the process
- Using a variety of tools
- Explore using a variety of mark-making techniques and unusual materials for creating prints.
- How to sign and edition your prints, plus advice on framing

- Drawing materials, such as pencils, rubber, ruler
- Tracing paper
- Source material, such as your own photographs and sketches, to help you create image(s) to print
- Apron
- Box/packet of latex gloves (to keep your hands clean when you’re inking up and printing). Baby wipes are also useful.
- Small set of oil paints and suitable brushes (if you’ve worked with oils before and have a medium you like to use to dilute them then bring that along too)
