Take a long look at the landscape ‘close to home’ the land which you know. This may be river or sea, town, city or countryside all with a particular elements, features and horizon lines; use the local landscape as inspiration for your sketchbook development. Take a walk or a drive and really notice the elements which are in your ‘close to home’, make quick sketches, take photographs and make notes to bring to the course. During the course explore the creative potential of line, colour and texture through experimentation with mark making and simple collage. These landscape thoughts can then be extended by simplifying, abstracting and fragmenting images. Create a highly personal record of inspiration, techniques and experimentation to be drawn upon in later work.

Materials
Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £4, payable to the tutor during the course. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.
The tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.

- A stitched or staple bound sketchbook size and shape of your choice, not too large.
- Drawing pens in black, sepia or grey, whichever you prefer.
- A number 10 or 12 round brush for use with ink and colour.
- An apron or overall; please wear suitable clothing
