This one-day Powertex sculpture workshop is designed for a range of abilities from complete beginner to improver

Workshop Details:
Learn the art of Textile Sculpting & create a beautiful Figure Sculpture using recycled textiles & Powertex art products, under the expert tuition of Liz Dixon, certified Powertex tutor.

We will start with an introduction to the products before building a simple armature using everyday materials such as wire, cardboard & tin foil.  Students will have a selection of plaster head styles to choose from for their sculpture, supplied by the tutor. Next, you will learn about correct material selection for use with the fabric hardener, followed by a dry wrap technique to give a base layer to your sculpture. There will be a large selection of fabric textures available to dress your sculpture using a wet wrap technique.  Sculptures will then be left to air dry over afternoon tea break before adding colour using pigments applied with a dry brushing technique.

Skills and techniques that will be taught in the course:
  • Armature building
  • Material Selection
  • Dry wrap & Wet wrap techniques.
  • Textile Sculpture
  • Dry brushing

Materials
All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £20 payable to the tutor during the course.  Gloves & aprons will also be provided.

Tutors may not have the facilities to take card payments in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.

Students - please bring with you:
  • Please wear old clothes, tie back long hair & remove rings & bracelets before attending this course.  We will be working with a water-based fabric hardener & although aprons & gloves are provided, spillages & splashes can sometimes occur.
  • Your finished sculpture will be approx. 450mm high x 150mm wide x 150mm deep. Sizes may vary slightly depending on style of dress & whether the student has chosen to add wings to their sculpture. It is advised that students bring some bubble wrap or a box to help transport their sculpture home

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
