Workshop details
Sometimes we need to fit a great deal of calligraphy into a small space but can’t get sharp writing that small. Or we’ve completed a beautiful design, want to insert the credit in tiny writing somewhere – and mess it up because it goes blobby. If this sounds like you, we've got the perfect workshop... just don't forget your reading glasses!
Writing very small is a skill, but once you know how, and have practiced it, it can enhance your calligraphy 100%. In this workshop Mary will cover pens, paper and ink, because all those things have to work well together for successful results.
Working our way slowly from a small nib to the smallest, and from maybe 3mm to 1mm (yes I said you’d need your glasses) we’ll discuss the tricks that will help to retain sharp writing even at such teeny sizes. The lettering has to be adapted too, and the spacing, so we shall focus on how to make those adjustments, writing in capitals and Italic – which each have their separate features to think about.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
Equipment & materials list
