ArtTalk Details
Few Dutch artists of The Golden Age are as celebrated today as Johannes Vermeer. The artist specialised in domestic interiors scenes, often with a focus on a singly observed figure or a conversation. The artist’s life is often shrouded in mystery and his output considered relatively small.
His understanding of light and his probable use of optics are often widely debated among Art Historians, as are the deeper meanings his art. His reputation has risen enormously in the past one hundred years. This talk looks at his life, his times, and above all his art.
Martin's popular Classics series is illustrated where possible with original photographs and slides. He will also provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk.
The talk will last for 60 minutes, followed by an open Q&A session.
