ArtTalk Details
The French Impressionist Claude Monet is a firm favourite with the public. Martin looks at his career over two talks seeing the development of French Impressionism and then his later career, his series paintings, his garden at Giverny and the late works up until his death in 1926. Martin looks at the facts about Monet’s life, his friendships and professional relationships.
Monet is a painter who broke with tradition, and yet his works today are a standard to which all aspiring artists look towards.
Part 1: Monet is one of the most celebrated artists and his development of Impressionism make his work intriguing and enjoyable. This talk focuses upon his art up until 1880; his beginnings and his development of Plein-air painting.
Part 2: Monet’s mature career extended to the first quarter of the 20th Century. This talk explores Monet's work from London, northern France and Venice. Martin examines how Monet remained relevant and influential.
Martin's talks will be illustrated where possible with original photographs and slides. He will also provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk.
Each talk will last for 60 minutes, followed by an open Q&A session.
