This LivePlus™ online workshop is designed for beginners

Workshop details
Come and learn how to add real gold to designs on paper or card! We will explore both traditional and contemporary ways of adding gold leaf to a page. By the end of the workshop you will be able to add that touch of ‘bling’ to greetings cards, calligraphy and paintings.

You will learn how to use a variety of gilding ‘sizes’ or glues, looking at the effects achievable by using each method. I’ll show you how to gild, using easy techniques requiring no specialist equipment, and how to achieve both raised and flat areas of gilding in the same design. We’ll talk about burnishing, or polishing the gold, and when that is and isn’t appropriate. Designs will be provided for you to practice on but feel free to use your own creativity!

Specific skills you will learn at the workshop:
  • Tracing and transferring an image on to paper
  • The best methods of applying a variety of gold ‘sizes’ or glues
  • Transfer gold: what to buy and how to use it
  • Burnishing gold to a high shine
  • Mixing and applying paint
  • Outlining shapes

Equipment & materials list
Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below.

You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching the live demonstration – the demo session is a time to watch, ask and learn. After the demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
