ArtTalk details
Join Sharn Matthews for a sideways look at fashion history from 1600-1950. Through the items that finish a fashionable outfit, we will be exploring a mixture of luxury and everyday examples from museum collections around the country.
Having the right dress was not enough to be fashionable or even look like a lady – the correct underwear was necessary to provide the right shape to be fashionable, whilst hats and gloves distinguished rich from poor. This linked series of talks will look at how these accessories shaped and accommodated fashionable styles and enhanced the image of the wearer.
The talks will cover four centuries of changing styles and touch on how these items were manufactured and purchased.
Each talk will last an hour followed by open Q&A with Sharn.
