Workshop details
Undoubtedly Fraktur has been one of the most controversial of all hands and type. From its origins in the 1400s to its rise to visually represent German power. Fraktur’s dominance over the Latin Antiqua hand was a powerful move. Now in the 21st century there has been resurgence of Fraktur in calligraphy and type globally.
We will look at historical and contemporary models and marry both the majuscule with their visually exciting and intricate minuscule. Examples from Johann Neurdoffer, Rudolf Koch and Friedrich Neugebauer will be used to further our knowledge of the visual power of this enduring hand.
You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching the live demonstrations – they are a time to watch, ask and learn. After each class you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch and work along with as many times as you wish for thirty days.
Equipment & materials list
Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below.
