ArtTalk Details
Gustav Klimt is an artist who remains as popular today as he was a century ago. His paintings are often connected to ideas about design, beauty and symbolism. Klimt was also an important portraitist, particularly of women.
His most celebrated work from Vienna is examined in Martin’s talk. He will explore the role of decoration in early modern painting and Klimt’s influence upon artists of his time. Among the artists of the Vienna Secession, Klimt was the most influenced by Japanese art. Klimt's 'Golden Phase' is explored as is the artist’s use of gold and non traditional pigments.
This talk will use original photographs of many of the superb artworks as possible and, as always, Martin sets the art in its historical context and links it with the events that shaped the modern world. He will also provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following each talk.
The talk will last for 60 minutes, followed by an open Q&A session.
