ArtTalk Details
Auguste Rodin is considered by many to be the greatest sculptor since Michelangelo. Rodin lived in the time of French Impressionism and European symbolism, and both play a significant part in his oeuvre. Rodin was also a great craftsman and highly innovative.
His rapid drawings and watercolours point towards modernism. He had a huge international reputation and his sculpture remains challenging and powerful. Rodin was unusual among sculptors in that he looked for new expressions of human form rather than reliance upon classical sources.
This talk will use original photographs of many of the superb artworks as possible and, as always, Martin sets the art in its historical context and links it with the events that shaped the modern world. He will also provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following each talk.
The talk will last for 60 minutes, followed by an open Q&A session.
