10am - 4pm
(Lunch 12.30 - 1.00pm)
This one-day, onsite workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience
Workshop Details
A fun and practical introduction to the sustainable craft of willow basketry on a bigger scale. The day would be an excellent follow on from willow birdfeeders. Using bark-covered willow grown in the UK, we will practice some basic techniques of waling and pairing. The willow will have been soaked, or recently cut, to give it flexibility. Once woven and dried the bark covering will protect it from the worst of outside weather during a year. You will take home a beautiful spiral garden obelisk for growing sweet peas or climbers. Please ensure you can transport the obelisk in your car. Patience and some manual strength will be required. Anyone with wrist, elbow or shoulder joint issues please check in with the tutor first.
Skills / Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not covered by the booking fee. All materials will be supplied by the tutor at a cost of £10, payable direct to the tutor on the day.
Please Bring With You
A good pair of secateurs if you have some
An apron (or wear old clothing that won't snag)
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
