Tutor Jean Turton
10am - 4pm
(Lunch 12.30 - 1.00pm)
This two-day, onsite workshop is suitable for all levels of ability including beginners
Workshop Details
During these 2 days, we will explore both ways of Chinese Brush painting, 'meticulous' and 'free style'. We will work on silk to create a meticulous flower and bird composition, around the theme of Spring and looking towards Summer. This can be either on a piece of silk, or as a silk fan.
We will also work on two freestyle paintings, a landscape inspired by the Master of the Qing Dynasty, Shen Zhou and a freestyle composition of choice, either flower and bird or an animal, I will bring both.
At the end of the two days, we will have a greater understanding of Chinese composition and ways of painting.
By completing these paintings you will have knowledge of both techniques. Meticulous technique is composed of painting the outline and filling the shapes with layers of shading and colour, to build up the whole picture. Freestyle means using the brush so each stroke makes part of the whole, e.g. a petal, a feather.
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £ 30, payable to the tutor during the workshop. Please bring cash or cheque to pay for materials on the day.
Please feel free to bring any Chinese materials you may already have.
Students - please bring with you:
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
