This one-day workshop is suitable for beginners, and those with a little more experience.

Workshop Details
Screen printing is a wonderful way to create multiple prints on paper and textiles. On this one-day workshop you will learn about stencil screen printing, using outliner and filler and photo emulsion printing. Tutor Victoria Squires has designed home textiles for a number of years and will lead you through this fascinating and enjoyable process.

Victoria will begin the day by demonstrating the process of photo emulsion screen printing. You will be able to choose from a variety of pre-made emulsion screens to experiment with this technique. You will also learn how to apply filler and block to screens and cut your own stencils to use as print designs. After lunch the tutor will show you how to mix effects and create two- and three-colour prints. You can then choose from a variety of items to print your design onto such as shopping bags, aprons, tea towels, paper, home furnishing fabrics and greeting cards.

Skills/Techniques Covered
  • applying emulsions, fillers and blocks to screens
  • using Thermofax screens
  • creating stencils in acetate and freezer paper
  • using a squeegee to apply ink to the screen
  • lining up your print
  • creating a repeat print
  • heat setting your print
  • creating multicolour prints

Materials
Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £10–£14 for the basics; students in the past have enjoyed the day so much they opt for producing multiple prints and do purchase additional items from the tutor payable on the day at the end of the course. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.

The tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.

Please Bring With You
  • Inspiration in the form of sketches, photos or pages from magazines
  • One old plastic membership, credit or store card
  • An apron
  • And please wear old clothing
  • Any fabric you have onto which you would like to print (many items are available from the tutor - see above)

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
