Tutor: Samira Mian
Thurs 7th July 10am - 12pm
(UK timings)
This LivePlus™ online workshop forms part of our 'back to basics' range of classes, and is specifically designed for absolute beginners and those looking to build confidence using particular materials.
Workshop details
By popular request, this two-hour beginners class will explore a range of related eightfold Islamic geometric patterns found in the architecture of Morocco and Andalusia, Spain.
A brand new tutor to Ardington, Samira Mian will begin by familiarising us with the tools required to create Islamic geometric patterns and running through the processes and practicalities involved, including lots of examples of potential outcomes.
On a blank sheet of paper we will then draw a series of lines and circles to construct the underlying grid. From this underlying grid, a range of patterns can be drawn. We will outline and trace two variations, one simple and one more complex, and then learn how this tracing can be transferred and tessellated seamlessly to create beautiful patterns in watercolours and gouache on watercolour paper.
Whether you want to work along with Samira during the class, or choose to just watch and learn, is up to you. All students will be given access to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
