This worshop will show you how to sketch landscapes and buildings with pen and watercolour pencil. Using photographs as reference you will be shown how to use the pen and pencils to sketch trees, hills, buildings, skies, and architectural detail.
Weather permitting, we may be sketching outside too.

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.

- Cross hatching
- Shading
- Texture
- Colour mixing
- Using the watercolour pencils both dry and wet.
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.
- The tutor will have a small selection of tools and materials available to purchase but may not have enough for everyone
Students - please bring with you:
- 1 x pad or half a dozen or so quarter imperial (or A4) sheets of ‘Not’ surface (Cold Pressed) watercolour paper (I recommend Bockingford or Langton)
- One medium size starter pack of artists quality watercolour pencils (Derwent, Faber Castel, Caran Dache, Lyra or WH Smith). If buying pencils individually then get a light and dark version of the following: green, blue, brown plus a yellow, red, black and white.
- Pencil sharpener
- Eraser
- One round, size 8 or 10 and one size 2 or 4 watercolour brush
- One waterproof, black ink drawing pen. Size 03, 04 or 05 (Edding Profipen, Pilot DR drawing pen, Faber Castel Pitt pen or equivalent)
- One 2B or 4B graphite (lead) pencil
- Tissues, jam jar
- There may be an opportunity, weather permitting, to sketch out doors. Please bring a chair and suitable clothing such as hats, light coats or jumpers etc and suncream.
