Tutor Simon Sonsino
10am - 4pm
(Lunch provided 12.30 - 1.00pm)
This workshop is designed for anyone interested in creating art with letterform and is suitable for complete beginners as well as those familiar with calligraphy and mark-making.
Day one: Inspirations, Tools & Techniques
Day two: A Finished Piece
Workshop Details
You don’t need any calligraphic experience as this isn’t a workshop that relies on straight lines, neat handwriting or legibility. Also suitable for people with experience in the lettering arts that wish to 'free-up' their style. You will come away with a series of inspirational samples as a reference for future work and your own unique (hopefully) finished piece. This is a pressure-free zone - no rules and no rights or wrongs. You will work on some techniques from Simon's two books as well as some new techniques to 2022
Skills/Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials (and use of tools) will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £7.00, payable to the tutor during the class. The tutor does have the facilities to take contactless card payments for materials in the workshop.

Workshop Details
- On day one of the workshop you will briefly look at the artists (and their art) that have inspired Simon to create his own Textual Art. You will then go on to work through a set of exercises creating abstract letterform with different mark-making tools (one of which you'll make yourself).
- On day two you will be using all you have learnt to work toward your own finished piece of work. At the end of the workshop Simon will quickly go through a list of must-have books.
