This LivePlus™ online workshop is ideal for beginners and improvers. Samira's introductory class is not a prerequisite, but you may wish to join us if you can.
Workshop details
In this four-part series, Samira Mian will take you through the compass and straight edge construction of two Islamic Geometric Pattern families from different corners of the Islamic Lands.
From the lines and circles of the underlying grid, several interrelated patterns can be drawn. She will guide you through the practicalities of drawing, tracing, transferring and tiling the pattern.
The creativity is brought to the fore as Samira shows a range of ways in which these patterns can be rendered in ink and watercolours. Coupling the medieval geometry with contemporary watercolours, and the geometry with the creativity, so that both sides of the brain are in action all the while contextualising the patterns and the Islamic architecture they originated from.
Whether you want to work along with Samira during the classes, or choose to just watch and learn, is up to you. All students will be given access to the recordings, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
