This one day workshop is suitable for those with a little experience in fine art painting and those at a more intermediate level.
Workshop Details
An introduction to the centuries-old art form of miniature painting, using traditional Indo-Persian techniques.
The focus of this introductory workshop will be on trees commonly depicted in Persian miniature paintings, in particular the Cypress and almond blossom tree. We will practice how to draw and paint them using Persian miniature brush techniques. The tutor will also highlight traditional paper treatments, pigment and gold paint preparation to be used for their paintings.
By the end of the class, students will have a basic, practical understanding of how tress are drawn and painted with traditional methods and materials.
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. Most materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £5, payable to the tutor during the workshop

Students - please bring with you:
- Selection of fine watercolour brushes, ideally sable (sizes no.000, no.0, no.1) although tutor will have some for students’ use
- Selection of gouaches or watercolour paints (black, white, red, yellow, blue, green etc.) although tutor will have some for students’ use
- Burnisher, e.g. smooth marble egg, paper weight, polished stone or smooth Cowerie shell (tutor will have some to share)
- Paint palette with wells and kitchen roll
- H, HB pencils, pencil sharpener or mechanical pencil recommended, eraser and optional coloured pencils
- Optional magnifying glass, suggested for detailed painting
