Workshop details
Have you always wanted to know more about calligraphy, but perhaps you're not quite ready for the commitment of signing up for a multi-week class with homework? Or maybe you're just getting started in your calligraphy studies, or you're ready to get started but not sure what class to take? Perhaps you have admired those old illuminated manuscripts and wondered how they were created? Then this class, which could have been called “Art Appreciation for Calligraphy,” is perfect for you!
This class will give you a taste of what is involved in the practice and study of calligraphy and illumination. While this class does not teach students to write in a calligraphy style (that usually takes a bit more time to do effectively), it offers a short demonstration/display of a variety of different calligraphy styles, techniques, and tools, along with a brief history of calligraphy. As a bonus, you get the opportunity to follow step-by-step instructions and a demonstration to create your VERY OWN fancy decorated letter during the class if you choose!
This class will at least give you an understanding of the depth and breadth of what is involved in creating beautiful letters. If you choose, it will also show you how to create more decorated letters in the future, and will serve as a starting point for further studies in calligraphy and related decoration.
You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching the live demonstration, if you don't want to – you can use the sessions as a time to watch, ask and learn. After each class you will be given a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.

Light pad: A number of this instructor’s students have been happy with this one, which is much less expensive than many other options (note that you will also need a converter if you want to plug it into the wall instead of into a USB port on a computer): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J3NRAV2/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
