This one-day, onsite workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with a little experience
Workshop Details
The workshop is a very experimental and playful day. It is all about getting to understand the material and learning how to create beautiful unique pieces of art. You will be shown how to create your very own alcohol ink illustrations on yupo paper (which is a non-porous, acid free and pH neutral, synthetic paper) as well as ceramics. You will have plenty of time to get familiar with the fluid and the very colourful nature of alcohol inks. We use isopropanol alcohol to allow the inks to move around the paper. Then, using heat guns, straws and hair dryers you will be able to move the inks and dry them in position.
The morning will consist of covering the basics of alcohol inks and lots of experimentation before leading onto a little more structure in the afternoon. After lunch you will use the skills you have learnt in the morning to design ceramic baubles, wooden decorations and turn your illustrations into Christmas cards. The wooden decorations will then be taken away to resin and posted back to you a week after the workshop. As well as learning the techniques involved with creating alcohol ink illustrations you will also learn the resin process I use to finish artwork, via a digital demonstration. Resin can’t be demonstrated in person as the fumes are too dangerous to breathe in without the appropriate respirator. But learning the process allows you to gain a greater understanding of the material.
Skills / Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £12 plus £5 P&P cost, payable to the tutor during the workshop.
