Workshop details
In this, the second of our new series, Martin Beek and Jonathan Newey will be taking an in-depth look at the seascapes of acclaimed British artist, Joseph Mallord William Turner.
ArtTalk
Martin will offer an overview of the life of JMW Turner, before focusing in on the dramatic and elemental paintings of the sea that Turner is often known for.
Martin's talk will be illustrated where possible with original photographs and slides. He will also provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk.
Demonstration
JMW Turner is widely recognised as one of the earliest examples of impressionist painters, greatly admired by the French impressionists. Inspired by his seascapes, Jonathan will be using acrylic paint to demonstrate the use of textured paint and glazes to produce the chiaroscuro effect seen in Turner's paintings.
Jonathan's demonstration will also be accompanied by a step-by-step written instructions offering a wonderful downloadable resource for you to use for years to come.
Apart from your notepad and pen, you needn't have the materials ready whilst watching this class. Afterwards you will be given a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days
