ArtTalk details
Nowadays we tend to think of going shopping as a pleasurable, even frivolous, activity but the way we shop has evolved over time to take advantage of the latest inventions and social conventions. Take a trip down memory lane and beyond with this fascinating talk highlighting some of the key changes in our shopping habits over the centuries.
The recent pandemic highlighted the importance of shopping in providing some of the basics and luxuries of life we have taken for granted. It has also probably changed our shopping habits yet again – shopping has been continuously evolving since the medieval market was licensed. Find out where everyday people (and the rich) bought the items they used every day – from market stall to department store, from artisan makers to mass-production. You may be surprised by some of the things we bought and how some of high street names started.
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources & ideas with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your talk begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the talk ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
