Workshop Details
A modern take on traditional basket making: Work with Dyed Cane to weave a small basket. Choose to work with bright vibrant colours or softer more muted tones. The basketry technique used for working with cane is known as “stake and strand” and is also used a lot for willow basketry. Cane takes dye very easily the the stake and strand technique allows for a variety of different colour patterns to be worked.
You will learn how to start the base of a cane basket, then to work up the sides, shaping as you go. The tutor will bring samples to give you ideas of what patterns and colour combinations you can choose to weave up the sides of your baskets.
Finally you’ll work a simple border to finish off your basket.
Skills & Techniques Covered
