This LivePlus™ online workshop is ideal for those who have attended a previous paper cutting class with Christine but will also be suitable for beginners who are familiar with the materials.

You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching this online demonstration – it is a time to watch, ask and learn.

Workshop details
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we will learn how to create beautiful, hand-lettered cards or gifts for our loved ones.

In this class, we will look at the different families of typefaces and how they can be effectively mixed together. We will also explore two ways of approaching designing paper cuts with letters; using a shape to contain the type, and then creating a design without a formal structure that is much more free form.

Both techniques offer lots of possibilities for unique and special designs.  Christine will provide templates via the class blackboard for you to practise with and will also show many examples of her hand-lettered work as inspiration.

Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
  • identifying the difference typeface families
  • how to draw letters freehand so that they can be cut out
  • looking for ways of joining letters together seamlessly
  • using layout paper to develop ideas
  • how to develop a design using a shape to contain the words
  • how to develop a design using just words and letters with minimum structure
  • finishing designs neatly
  • how to mount cut outs
