Workshop Details
More and more people are enjoying the satisfaction of growing fruit and vegetables in their own gardens, on patios or balconies, and allotments these days. This course will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to get the best of your space, however big or small. It’s interactive too – with plenty of time to get input on your own plans!
In session one, we will start with vegetables, salads and herbs. Taking the gardening calendar as our guide, we will start by exploring soil preparation, seed sowing, planting tubers, sets and plugs, and the principles of crop rotation. We will also cover off the best ways to look after your plants, and when and how to harvest. You have the option to work on your own veg plot plan ready for the follow up session.
In session two, we look at growing fruit. This will include soft fruits, bush fruits and tree fruits with a focus on how to get the best out of your space, and some of the best varieties for good yields and flavour! Again, you have the option to work on your own fruit growing plan, ready for the follow up session.
In the follow up session, we will be looking at your own fruit and / or veg plans and Yvonne will offer 1:1 feedback and advice, as well as answering any further questions you may have. It’s always great to see what other students have come up with in these sessions too and learn from each other’s questions and approaches.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshops:

Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Yvonne will offer personalised critique / feedback via the blackboard for any garden plans uploaded by students within thirty days of the follow up session. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
*The third session is not recorded to ensure that you have an opportunity to share your work with the rest of the class, and receive personal feedback, without feeling self-conscious about being recorded. We would encourage you all to join us live if you can – even if you were signed up as a ‘recording only’ participant for the workshop.
