Tutor: Karen Carter

Wed 22nd March 10am - 12pm
(UK timings)

This LivePlus™ online workshop is suitable for anyone interested in colour; beginners and beyond! There will be elements of work-along during this workshop, so we would encourage students to have their materials to hand, ready to participate live during the class.

Workshop details
In the third of our monthly colour workshops we will explore bright & beautiful yellows.  From the vivid cheerful colour of sunshine, citrus fruit and spring flowers to the warm hues of earthy pigments such as siennas, ochres and rich umbers, yellow is a colour that conveys warmth, light & optimism.

In each workshop we will look briefly at cultural and artistic references around our chosen hue, then make our own reference boards collecting colours from a variety of sources. We will put this to practical use with colour-swatching, mixing and exploring colour relationships. This will be the springboard to a series of fun exercises which you can work along with if you wish…. these will be different for each Creative Colour workshop, allowing you to build an exciting collection of approaches and images to fill a sketchbook, make into cards, or hang on the wall!

These Creative Colour workshops are a chance to learn a bit of colour theory in a playful, relaxed and informative way…. they are suitable for everyone who has an enthusiasm for all things colourful! No experience needed, Karen will be doing lots of demos and will give step-by-step instructions.  You can work in watercolour, gouache or acrylics – the emphasis will be on understanding colour rather than specific paint techniques.

Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
  • Colour mixing using modern & traditional primaries
  • Understanding colour relationships
  • Using contrast to make a painting ‘pop’
  • Exploring transparency & opacity

Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.

Karen will offer personalised critique / feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.

After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard.  You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.

We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
