ArtTalk details
Edwin Landseer was the most famous English painter of his generation. This talk covers the artist's long and interesting career from a child prodigy, to producing the most accomplished studies of animals since George Stubbs.
Martin looks at his paintings of Scotland and the court of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. Some of his finest work is not so well known in our time and deserves better recognition. Landseer's life is both tragic and inspiring, without doubt one of the ninteenth century's most remarkable artists.
Martin will provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk via the blackboard.
The talk will last for 60 minutes, followed by an open Q&A session.
