This one-day, onsite workshop is suitable for beginners with some sewing machine knowledge and those wishing to refresh.
Workshop Details
This one day class is the perfect introduction to improv patchwork inspired by the quilts of Gees Bend and is suitable for beginners and intermediate level stitchers. Ideal for anyone with an interest in patchwork, stitching, fabrics, recycling/reusing and creating an original design. And anyone happy to bust the rules and get creative with their sewing!
Christine encourages using recycled fabrics, which is how patchwork started.
Skills & Techniques Covered
You will learn how to use a rotary cutter and quilting rule, assemble 2 patchwork panels, make handles and stitch everything together to create a unique, useful bag.
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee.
Students please bring
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.

Students please bring
- Your fully working sewing machine (don't forget your lead!)
- Basic sewing kit – pins, fabric scissors, sewing threads
- Cutting mat – A2 (School has one you can borrow)
- Rotary cutter – 45mm
- Quilting rule
- A selection of 100% cotton fabrics, preferably recycled – eg shirts, dresses, medium/light weight furnishing fabric, curtain lining or old sheet or pillow case (good for bag lining). Off-cuts and scraps also useful, aim for a mix of large designs, small designs, checks and stripes.
