This LivePlus™ online series is suitable for students of all levels and will begin by covering the basics of flat gilding for those who have not attended a class with Toni before. You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching this online demonstration – it is a time to watch, ask and learn.
Workshop details
We are absolutely delighted to welcome Toni Watts back to our ONLINE programme with this 'masterclass' - all of her previous illumination classes rolled into one series, plus some basic watercolour painting techniques!
This four-week series will give you the opportunity to learn a variety of techniques for gilding on paper. We’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each, and, as always, there will be tips and tricks for improving your gilding and suggestions for problem solving if your work doesn’t turn out quite as planned!
Students will be encouraged to share photos of their progress on the class blackboard in between sessions and the class will be kept small to allow plenty of opportunities for individual feedback. You will have the option of working on an illustration designed by Toni, which incorporates all of the techniques learned over the series, but creativity is welcomed.

All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Toni will offer personalised critique / feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
