This LivePlus™ online workshop is suitable for beginners. This is a work-along workshop where students should have their materials to hand, ready to participate live during the class.
Workshop details
Whether it is the coastline of your childhood or a recent holiday, the sea is always an inspiring place to be. In this four-part workshop with Anne Kelly, we will be using the seaside as inspiration to create our very own fabric sketchbook cover.
Hunt through your fabric stash for sea-inspired fabrics, old embroidered snippets of tea cloths and handkerchiefs, and vintage clothing. Dig out any old photos or magazine images that inspire you and find old pages from travels journals & sketchbooks. You could even rummage through your seaside ephemera and postcards too! The aim is to amass a collection ahead of the workshop which will form the basis of your work. It’s helpful to think about your colours and textures when creating your collection - what goes well together, what offers you that something extra!
You will be using your collection first to produce a central image, then to collage and embellish your cover. You'll add lace, ribbon and ‘slow’ stitch to create a unique and personal cover for an A5 sketchbook.
Each class will include elements of demonstration and work-along sections. Students will be encouraged to share their work with the group both during the session, as you stitch along, but also as photos on the class blackboard.

Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Anne will offer personalised critique / feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
