Workshop Details
The word ‘drawing’ suggests to most people an image executed in pencil, but there are many other materials available and the variety in choice is ever-increasing. Even when using the humble pencil there are several degrees of relative hardness and softness of graphite at your disposal capable of producing marks that can vary from fine and pale to broad and dark. We will be looking at the different effects that can be achieved with both graphite and coloured pencils, and the techniques that can be employed in rendering a range of subject matter. You will be shown ways in which pens can also be used for drawing in both a traditional and more contemporary way. Charcoal is one of the oldest drawing materials and is especially suitable for making tonal drawings working from dark to light where some of the charcoal is removed by using a putty rubber. It can also be used to great effect for strong and vigorous linear drawings.
