ArtTalk details
From the earliest Pre-Raphaelite paintings, artists were moved to closely observe the natural world, and a new style emerged. These gloriously detailed sunlight landscapes became backgrounds to some of the period's best known paintings.
By the mid 1850's landscape itself became a worthy subject matter in this new style. Influenced by new scientific ideas about nature and the writings of John Ruskin, a new "school" of painters followed.
The talk looks at artists like John William Inchbold, William Dyce, John Brett and Ford Madox Brown in particular. Martin's talk is illustrated with many original photographs taken from collections throughout Britain.
Martin will provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk via the blackboard.
The talk will last for 60 minutes, followed by an open Q&A session.
