This LivePlus™ online workshop is suitable for for students of all skill levels. You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching this online demonstration – it is a time to watch, ask and learn.
Workshop details
If you enjoy the fairy-tale qualities of Medieval illumination, you will love this miniature painting class!
Students of all skill levels will learn how to design and paint a foliate setting for a sweet, seasonal squirrel. Although historic painted miniatures provide the inspiration for this class, we also look to the detailed watercolour techniques of Beatrix Potter in this special presentation.
Even if you think you can’t draw, there is something for all skill levels in this class. Guides will be provided for the squirrel designs, while advanced students will be encouraged to create a unique composition for the Festive Season.
A simple gilding technique will be presented to add 23K gold leaf to your design and the versatile dry brush technique will be used to paint our woodland friend. Finished designs will be suitable for framing, or you may want to reproduce it as a card.
Whether you choose a candy cane setting, a woodland wreath, or a simple acanthus spray for your sweet squirrel, you will be filled with wonder and peace as you take time to paint during this beautiful season.
Equipment & materials list

Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Heather will offer personalised critique / feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
*The feedback section of the follow up session is not recorded to ensure that you have an opportunity to share your work with the rest of the class, and receive personal feedback, without feeling self-conscious about being recorded. We would encourage you all to join us live if you can – even if you were signed up as a ‘recording only’ participant for the workshop.
